Jalan Tunjungan Old Time

Jalan Tunjungan since the early 20th century has been one of the commercial center of the city of Surabaya. This road is a connecting road that once the main shopping area in Surabaya. The road connecting the housing next derah South-East and West Surabaya (Gubeng, Darmo, Ketabang and Sawahan), with a trade area around the existing Red Bridge.
In the 1930s established the main shopping complex in Surabaya with concrete buildings and modern architectural styles. At the junction of Road and Road Tunjungan Embong Malang, there used to be shop buildings Nam. This building occupying a former car dealer shop (Photo 1). Stores Nam Unfortunately this also own the building has been demolished around 1990.

Along the road there Tunjungan various shops and restaurants. One is the building of shops and restaurants "HELLENDORN" corner Jl. Kenari and Jl. Tunjungan. Designees were Ir. Th. Van Oyen (Photo 2).

One of the famous building in Jalan Tunjungan is Siola Building. Before becoming Siola Stores, this building was used as a British department store named "WHITEAWAY". In the 1940's used to sell imported goods from Japan, its name changed to "SHOP Chiyoda". Although amended several times instead of the front face, now Siola Building is still the land of the environment surrounding markers Tunjungan Road.
