The event was held to bring together the world's seaweed business and invite new investors to want to invest in Indonesia's seaweed sector. Currently about 80 percent of the production of grass if Indonesia still exported in the form of dried seaweed.

Indonesia has the advantage to be a commodity option because the amount of potential areas for development of sea grass, seaweed easily cultivated, involving the fish farm households that tend labor intensive and done in large areas, and its relatively high market demand.
Based on data from the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries statistics, the total seaweed production in 2008 of about 2.14506 million tonnes, with export volume in 2008 amounted to 102,415.93 tons worth U.S. $ 124.36 million
